The Bouldering & climbing festival in June 2019 is an excellent chance for you to visit IKARIA ISLAND!
Since 2013, an important project has begun in order to highlight and promote alternative tourism on the island, with first initiative the creation of bouldering parks all over the island. The project was managed by Evaggelos Kastanias, local climber with a great experience, with the help of 2 experienced climbers Antonis Skevofylax and Donatos Botos. This project was supported by the Municipality of Ikaria. In 2015 the first bouldering guidebook is printed and issued, including more than 300 bouldering problems and useful info about the island. Today, the book is released in Greece and Europe, and recently became an application by Vertical Life. Meanwhile, the sport climbing project has begun and until today there exist 5 climbing sectors and approximately 120 sport climbing routes of various grades all over the island. Special thanks to experienced climbers Dimitrios Prodromou, Janetos Katsafados, Yannis Aliyannis, Antonis Skevofylax and Donatos Botos for their precious help in bolting new routes. Also, on the southern part of the island Remy have bolted a few interesting routes close to the beach of Seychelles. Ikaria has splendid high quality rocky anaglyph, which has impressed all climbers that have visited until today.
Ikaria has the chance to combine a great number of great quality rock, ideal for 2 kinds of climbing: bouldering & sport climbing.
Why climb in Ikaria?

Climbing sectors are scattered along the island, offering climbing in different landscapes and weather conditions (sectors in the north and the south part of the island)
Ikaria’s sectors bolted until today gather a number of different grades routes- from challenging and amazing vertical walls to easy ones for beginners and families.
In general, all sectors are easy to access and offer breathtaking views to the Aegean
Ikaria is only 6 ½ hours away by boat from Piraeus port and 45 minutes by airplane from Athens. June is a splendid period for climbing and visiting the island.

BOULDERING & CLIMBING COMPETITION
The Bouldering & Climbing Competition will take place on Sunday, June 16th, from 09:00 until 18:00. Each climbing party can choose either of the following and climb as many routes as possible to gather points.
Each route climbed freely earns a designated number of points depending on grade:
Bouldering up to6A 1000 points/climber
Bouldering up to 7A 2000 points/climber
Bouldering 7Aand up 3000 points/climber
Sport climbing up to 7A 1500 points/climber
Sport climbing 7A and up 3000 points/climber
+ 500 points/climber for onsighting
The climbing parties to climb the most routes and/or earn the highest number of points will be awarded unique prizes courtesy of the festival’s sponsors and local businesses.
Routes
Ikaria has 300+ bouldering problems among 9 impressive topos and around 120 sport climbing routes among 5 amazing crags, with different conditions.

Info about topos’ GPS and locations will be given at the festival’s reception desk at Karras Star Hotel.
The festival is organized by Bouldering Ikaria, Ikaria Climbing and DIAGORAS Athletic Gymnastics Club with the support and funding of the North Aegean Region and the Ikaria Provinces, and in collaboration with the DIAGORAS Sports Club.
