Description

Come along the unique paths and get to know the hospitality of people in a special place, Methana. The paths of the Methana Volcano Challenge are special, passing through ancient stone-built paths, dirt paths full of dense landscapes, picturesque villages, traditional chapels. All this surrounded by a volcanic backdrop that the lava has created over the centuries.
 
On May 9th and 10th we run to Methana on a special two-day seafront under the shade of the Volcano. Fun for the whole family 5.3km fun run and 1.5km kids run come to connect with the 12.5m and 24km mountain runs on unique trails, and for the whole family to feel the pace of an endorphin-filled weekend. And all this combined with parallel actions for the whole family !!!

9/10: Methana Volcano Challenge Kids Run 1.5 km

Kids race running 1500 meters on the beautiful route of the coastal road of Methana.

Start: 18:00
Route info:
The 1500m children's race will start at 18:00 in front of the entrance to the Methana Harbor pier. The direction of the small runners will be directed to the exit of the city of Methana (left on the map). Our little friends are invited to move along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf along the thermal baths at the entrance of the city. As the small runners approach 600 meters they will meet the small junction (small triangular flower bed) where the 3 roads join, March 25th, Chr. Maltezou and the Saronic Gulf Coast Road and turn left at the triangular junction to the port of Methana. Crossing the Saronic Gulf Coast to the port, they will approach the entrance of the pier, where they will turn right along the terminating arch into the pier of the Port of Methana.

Runners participating in the race:
The race can be attended by all and all junior athletes from 6 years of age and up to the age of 14 - participants must have recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health. All participants will sign a responsible statement before the race, that they are in good health and running at their own risk!

Water supply:
There will be an End to the Race for all our little athletes.

Deadline:
The race has a time limit of 30 minutes - until 18:30. Runners are required to be at the starting point of the race up to half an hour before the start of the race (5.30pm).
 
Categories
There will be no separate age categories in the race and no electronic timing.

Prizes and gifts: All participants will be awarded a finishing medal.

9/10: Methana Volcano Challenge Fun Run 5.3 km

Start: 18:30
Route info:
The 5.3km race will start half an hour (18:30) after the start of the children's race. The start of the 5.3km race will take place in front of the entrance to the pier of the Methana Port with a view to Limnionas Beach. Runners are invited to move along the coastal road (Saronic Gulf Coast) to Limniona Beach. Arriving at Limniona beach the runners will have crossed the first 1600 meters where they will turn around and head towards the port again off the road they came from. Passing in front of the chapel of Agios Nikolaos the runners will have completed the 2500m race where there will be their water supply. Keeping the runners on their way and reaching 3000 meters (in front of the Akti Hotel) they will have to turn right (volunteer will indicate their course) on Alupi Street. At the first lane the runners should turn left and move onto Chr. Maltese (volunteer will mark their course). Covering the entire length of Chr. The Maltese runners arriving at the coastal road Akti Saronikou will turn left and at the first narrow right, and will run parallel to the Boat Marina and heading to Nisaki (Agioi Anargyroi Church). Runners will move around Isakaki and then along the beach until they return to the Saronic Gulf Coast to terminate. Reaching the entrance of the Port Pier, the runners will have to turn right to cross the Termination Arch. The route is asphalt terrain, 5.3 km along the entire route.

Elevation profiles:
In this race, there is a zero elevation profile, as the whole race is held at sea level.

Runners participating in the race:
The race is open to anyone who has reached the age of 14 - as you know, including high school students, who have recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health. All participants will sign a responsible statement before the race, that they are in good health and running at their own risk!

Water supply:
There will be 1 water supply point on the route at 2500 m in front of the chapel of Agios Nikolaos.

Deadline:
The race has a time limit of 1 ½ hours - until 20:00. Runners are called up to half an hour before the start of the race (at 6pm).

Match Timing:
There will be electronic timing in the race with the timing chip mounted on the leg. After the race this chip is returned.

9/10: Methana Volcano Challenge Trail RUN 12 Km

Start: 09:30
Route info:
The 12km mountain race will start from the Port of Methana in front of the entrance of the Port Pier at the entrance to Methana (right on the Map). The finish and this race will be just like everyone else in the Port of Methana. The 12km mountain race most of its route consists of trails that are marked with the best possible sign so that no runner is lost in the effort and everyone enjoys this unique race.

Elevation profiles:

You start at sea level and rise to +545 meters above sea level, then end up at the sea level where you end up at Methana Harbor (see attached map).

Time: 09:30 am

Race safety:
Along the way there will be specialized people and rescuers, so as not to have the slightest problem during the race, wherever and whenever needed.

Runners participating in the race:
The race is open to anyone who has reached the age of 18 and has recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health. All participants will sign a responsible statement before the race, that they are in good health and running at their own risk!

Medical coverage:
On the race track there will be experienced rescuers as well as a doctor in the Port of Methana along with an ambulance on hand, if needed. The race is also covered by a dedicated radio station to keep track of the race at any time for any need. There will also be nursing staff, physiotherapists as well as a fire truck.

Deadline:
The race has a finish time of 2:30 hours (until 12:00). Runners are invited to stay at the race starting up to half an hour before the race starts (at 09:00) where they will have received their package from the Secretariat of the race.

9/10: Methana Volcano Challenge Trail RUN 24 Km

The mountain race will start from the Port of Methana in front of the entrance of the Port pier with a direction to the entrance to Methana (once to the right of the Charter). The finishing of this particular race will, as with all others, be within the pier of the Port of Methana. The half-marathon route is 24 km long and for the most part it consists of trails that are marked for the best possible sign, so that no runner is lost in the effort and everyone enjoys this special race!

Elevation profiles:
You start from the sea level, reach up to 705 meters altitude and then back to the level of the sea where you end up at the Port of Methana.

Running time: 09:00 am

Race safety:
Along the way there will be specialized people and rescuers to avoid the slightest problem during the race, wherever and whenever needed.

Runners participating in the race:
The race is open to anyone who has reached the age of 18 and has recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health. All participants will sign a responsible statement, before the race, that they are in good health and running at their own risk.
