Description

Hiking Parnitha National Park, Athens, Attica, Greece

(contact us for availability)

The highest but also the largest mountain in Attica, Parnitha has always been a natural stronghold to the north. Numerous remains of fortifications, fortresses and towers confirm this.

Likewise, the chapels, the springs and the wells are remnants of a previous life of the mountain, when, before it became a National Park in 1961, it was a place with a permanent human presence in the lowlands and seasonal in the highlands. Remains of this presence are the cave of Pano or Lychnospilia, the ruined huts, the semi-wild fruit trees and layers of grated coal where there was production of charcoal.

Today it is the natural refuge of the Athenians' contact with nature. Fir forests, ravines and vast shrubs, deer and birds are manifestations of the wildlife we seek. Parnitha is an ideal destination for hiking, climbing, mountain biking or even to make a snowman with the first snow.
