The highest but also the largest mountain in Attica, Parnitha has always been a natural stronghold to the north. Numerous remains of fortifications, fortresses and towers confirm this.
Likewise, the chapels, springs and wells are remnants of a previous mountain life, when, before it became a National Park in 1961, it was a place with a permanent human presence in the lowlands and seasonal in the highlands. Remains of this presence are the cave of Panos or Lychnospilia, the ruined huts, the semi-wild fruit trees and layers of grated coal where there was production of charcoal.
Today it is the natural refuge of the Athenians' contact with nature. Fir forests, ravines and vast shrubs, deer and birds are manifestations of the wildlife we seek. Parnitha is an ideal destination for hiking, climbing, mountain biking or even to make a snowman with the first snows. in an atmosphere taken from fairy tales? The view of Athens at an altitude of 1200 meters will relax you and the gaze will travel to the three points of the horizon.
Parnitha is the largest and highest mountain in Attica. The highest peak has a height of 1,413m, the length of the mountain is about 32km and its width is 17km and is located just half an hour from Athens!
