Hiking the Vikos gorge protected area, the reason the North Pindos national park was established in 2007.
Starting the long 12 km crossing we will have the chance to walk on 17th century built stone paths, see interesting geological formations.
The end of the hike will give us a big natural highlight as we cross the Voidomatis springs.
Uphilling the gorge reveals it’s natural and imposant beauty!

The meeting takes place in the central square of Monodentri, where a briefing is made by the excursion attendant.
After you have been given the necessary equipment (hiking sticks, waterproof) and a snack, we start the hike.
First the path goes down the river, and then we run parallel to the river. We will meet the river in many places and we will walk parallel to this
There is a fountain in the middle of the route and stops at a beautiful riverside.

After we rest, we continue on to the springs of Voidomatis, and the monastery of Panagia, near the springs, is a dreamy place,
where there is also a rest stop, while the bravest can dive into the frozen waters!
Then we climb up to the village of Vikos, and as we climb up, the view of the deeper Greek ravine unfolds!

Walking in hilly or mountainous terrain, with longer ascents and descents. You will walk 5-7 hours a day. Requires good fitness and good health, but no technical experience. Requires good footwear such as trekking or hiking boots.

Το τοπίο στη χαράδρα του Βίκου είναι πανέμορφο, σκεφτόμαστε ήδη πότε θα ξαναπάμε. Ο οδηγός μας, ο κύριος Αποστόλης, ήταν εξαιρετικός, μας είπε διάφορα ενδιαφέροντα στοιχεία για την περιοχή και απάντησε με προθυμία στις ερωτήσεις μας. Επίσης φρόντιζε να μας ρωτάει τακτικά αν είναι εντάξει ο ρυθμός με τον οποίο προχωράμε, αν χρειαζόμαστε μια στάση και μας τόνιζε πού να προσέχουμε τι και γενικά πώς να κινούμαστε (αφού είμαστε και οι δύο πολύ αρχάριοι στο σπορ). Η επιλογή μας να πάμε με οδηγό και όχι μόνοι μας επιβεβαιώθηκε και από το γεγονός ότι μας έπιασε μπόρα κάπου στο μέσο της διαδρομής και (πέρα από το ότι φάνηκε πολύ χρήσιμος ο εξοπλισμός που περιλάμβανε η κράτηση, όπως πχ τα αδιάβροχα) ο κύριος Αποστόλης μας έβγαλε από τη χαράδρα με ταχύτητα και ασφάλεια. Θα το ξανακάνουμε σίγουρα!
