Hiking Tour to Aoos Lake near Mestovo

After 20 min. of driving from our meeting point at the center of Metsovo, we park our car on the north side of Aoos lake. This is our starting point for the 10km. hiking tour. The tour duration is aprox. 3 hours and the difficulty is moderate. The trail goes at the beginning through the forest but also through nice mountain meadows. On the highest point of our tour, we will have amazing views of the Aoos lake and the Pindus peninsula.

After a short break and a snack with some fruits, nuts etc. under a very nice big tree Pinus leukodermis we continue our hiking tour descent directly to the coast of the lake. From that point we stay on the shore of the lake until we are back in our car. On the warm days in the summer we can swim! Aoos lake is a mountainous artificial lake that combines a unique stream of lakes, natural small lakes and extensive mountain meadows.

It covers an area of 11.5 Km2 and is situated at an altitude of 1.350 meters, which classifies it as the most mountainous large lake in Greece. It is located between two National Parks, ValiaCalda and Vikos-Aoos. The shoreline of the lake is large and lacy with beautifully wooded small fjords and many small islands formed inside.
